James Talarico is Texas’s Democratic candidate for the US senate and the particular way in which he wears his theology on his sleeve is unlike anything I have ever encountered in a liberal American politician.
Can a progressive seminarian win in the Lone Star State? I’m skeptical, but very intrigued.
I wrote this piece for ARC: Religion, Politics, Et Cetera and it was deftly edited by Mark Oppenheimer. My analysis casts a melancholy glance at some Obama-era decisions regarding faith’s proper role in politics, which I always felt were mistakes.
